An omitted maxDepth meant unbounded recursion, and the shipped examples
shipped that default. maxDepth now defaults to 1; a numeric cap requires
the provider's depthLimit capability (the mount fails loud and points to
the explicit 'provider-managed' opt-out for out-of-process providers),
and a child AT the cap loses the delegating tool from its own schema via
the child toolFilter — prompt-face hiding on top of the execution-face
depth check. Examples pin maxDepth explicitly. The ACP snapshot harness
gains Scenario.childToolOmissions so a child session may legitimately
omit declared delegation tools from its pinned header and prompt;
affected subagent/workflow goldens are re-recorded.
Restack on the carved-out foundation (#192), per review feedback on #170.
The seam files resolve to the carve-out's revision — its prompt-order
neutrality fix (backends no longer inject 'tools'; the structured runtime
gates its own capture-tool registration) restores the subagent tools to
master's front position, so every recorded fixture is re-recorded on the
stacked tree and the authored error-finish/cancel headers re-patched to the
stacked tool list ([subagent, subagent_fork, workflow, todo_write, ...]).
Every session.jsonl fixture embedded the full composed system prompt and
complete tool-schema list in its request/header event (~8 KB on one line,
identical across the suite), so any prompt or tool-schema edit forced a
re-record or hand-edit of every fixture — see the dynamic-workflows PR for
the churn pattern this removes.
Now exactly one scenario (text-turn, flagged pinsHeader) commits and
compares that content verbatim; every other fixture stores and compares it
as {{system}}/{{tools}} tokens via the new pure scrubRequestHeaders
normalizer (applied to both compare sides and to record-mode writes, so a
re-record cannot reintroduce the content). request/header-delta payloads
are scrubbed the same way; config/reason stay verbatim — a model swap
SHOULD churn every fixture, a prompt edit should not. Replay is unaffected:
script derivation reads only assistant/chunk events.
Fixture meta-guards enforce the split: non-pinning fixtures must be fixed
points of the scrub, the pinning fixture must not be, and exactly one
scenario pins. Committed fixtures migrated through the same function.
Docs: pinned-header RFC (implemented/testing), base snapshot RFC + testing
policy + llm-replay module doc/README updated.
Master's reconstructable-requests overhaul (#179) meets the workflow tool:
- subagent-inprocess structured-output nudge becomes a system-prompt section
plus logged context (the injected-request waterfall shape is gone upstream)
- snapshot fixtures re-recorded on the merged tree so every request/header
carries the workflow tool; authored error-finish/cancel headers patched to
the merged tool list and system text
- architecture.md condensed back under its word ceiling; module graph regenerated
One re-record after the header events landed: recorded scenarios
re-harvested against the live API; the three fs-writing fixtures are
relativized (this recording's model happened to emit absolute
file_path arguments, which only round-trip through replay when the
path is cwd-independent) and, with the two never-re-recorded authored
scenarios (error-finish, cancel), rewritten in the normalized
authored-fixture form the harness documents — each now carrying the
request/header snapshot the loop logs before its first dispatch.
Keyless replay verified green across all 35 scenarios.
Reconciles the session-surface work (surfaceOp/sourceEventSeqs provenance as
the sole derivation path) with master's worktree-subagent series (fork-seed
boundary + out-of-process subagent backends).
Semantic reconciliations beyond the textual auto-merge:
- SQLite SCHEMA_VERSION: both sides bumped 2->3. Merged to a single v3 carrying
BOTH column families — master's seed_length on `sessions` and surface's
source_event_seqs/surface_op on `events`. writeRow + both INSERT sites bind
the full set; the schema doc lists all three added columns as the v2->v3 gap.
- agent-loop runStep request: master's `sessionId: session.id` and surface's
per-append surfaceOp/sourceEventSeqs coexist (different regions).
- Fork seed + surface: a fork seeds the child from the parent's LIVE events,
which now carry surfaceOp, so the child's surface rebuilds correctly. Verified
end-to-end — the subagent-fork replay recalls the inherited "SAFFRON" codeword
through the seeded prefix.
- Subagent snapshot fixtures (recorded pre-surface) re-enriched via KEYLESS
deterministic replay: only surfaceOp/sourceEventSeqs added onto existing
recorded lines (matched by seq), no recorded value changed. Not re-recorded
against the live API.
Gates: typecheck, test (1112), test:snapshot (14), doc-sync, lint, build,
hygiene all green.
The seed-boundary change made fork-child replay route correctly but shipped
with no recorded fork scenario — the seedLength slice was exercised only by
llm-replay unit tests and a persistence round-trip, never by the full-transcript
snapshot tier. Add two recorded scenarios that drive a real fork child through
it:
- subagent-fork: parent completes a turn, then forks one child (child fixture
carries a non-zero seedLength, the boundary the replay slice consumes).
- subagent-mixed: parent completes a turn, then delegates once via spawn
(seedLength 0) and once via fork (non-zero seedLength) in one transcript —
the first scenario to drive two subagent backends at once, exercising both
branches of the slice.
Both need a completed turn-1 so the fork seed is a non-empty completed-turn
prefix (a turn-1 fork seeds empty = spawn, which would not exercise the slice).
Removing the slice turns both scenarios red (the fork child receives the
parent's recorded chunks), proving the guard bites.
ACP (out-of-process) subagent replay remains a different shape, still tracked
as TODO(acp-subagent-replay).
